Your first clue that Microsoft's TCO is more expensive than Linux

This poor guy is complaining about how hosting sites that offer Microsoft based hosting are more expensive than LAMP, no really, and herein lies that real proof that MS claims about Windows TCO being lower than Linux are exposted for the marketing lies that  they are.

The killing rates of " Windows Web Hosting " and additional charges for " SQL Server " with many unexplained cache in calculations, were the main reasons to add frustration in proceeding further with the Microsoft Career.

The latest Microsoft updates (appears unstable)

I installed the latest Microsoft updates last night, things went as they should, and then I turned off my machine (it gets a little warm in the office these days)

Only to wake up to my first system crash sans blue screen of death, it just spontaneously rebooted. I wasn't doing much to stress the system either, reading blogs, email, listening to ATI FM radio and I had an ssh session going.

To that end, I'm blaming the MS'Tards for this instability. so I'd be wary of applying the patch until we here more about what's happening out in the wild. Hopefully, there will be a patch to follow shortly.

Caveat emptor.

Update:

So far no more spontaneous reboots, but I'm always very wary when machines do strange things.

Update II:

Things are still fine which is reassuring, I've decided to upgrade my laptop we'll see how things progress.

Goodby Netscape...

I’ve been using Netscape since before it was called Netscape, and I’ve finally given up. In recent years I’ve been using it for email and since Firefox 1.0 came out, it’s been only email that’s kept me using good old NS. Since the earlier versions of Thunderbird didn’t really appeal to me, I kept using NS Mail and have been using Firefox almost all the time for browsing.
I was going to try Netscape 8, but early user experiences appeared to suck, so I haven’t upgraded.

Remarkably, it was Microsoft that finally forced me off Netscape. The latest MS security patch for the GIF/JPG file overrun has started crashing NS in very unpredictable ways, and after losing a couple of long draft emails, I’ve had enough.

So Thunderbird here I come, I’ve imported all my settings and mail and everything looks OK, hopefully some of the UI issues that repulsed me initially have been fixed.
